The 1st<\/sup> Workshop on \u201cMechatronic Design\u201c Linz 2012 was a Know-How-Exchange between participants from eight European countries. The experts from academia and industry discussed new research topics on methods, tools and theories for Model-based Mechatronic System Design.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 1st<\/sup> Workshop on \u201cMechatronic Design\u201c Linz 2012 was an excellent opportunity to exchange new ideas for Mechatronic Design between the attendees, their organizations, and even beyond. The lectures given by renowned experts from eight countries focused on research results about approaches, methods, and theories for Mechatronic Design, such as<\/p>\n

Mechatronics makes use of the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering\/electronics and information technology in the design of successful products. Hence, integrated, multi-disciplinary modeling and simulation is a key to master the complexity of overall mechatronic systems. As an abstracted and simplified representation, hierarchical, mechatronic system models should support this task.<\/p>\n

Different views and models of the system to be designed should allow for simulations on the level of the overall system and should improve the understanding at the level of the integrated system. Such simulations are intended to assure and improve or even optimize \u201cglobal\u201d system properties.<\/p>\n

Internationalization<\/span> and networking<\/span> about<\/span> Mechatronic<\/span> design.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Workshop was organzied in the K2 Area of LCM (ACCM) in cooperation by the Institute of Mehatronic Design and Production from the Johannes Kepler University Linz by Dr. Peter Hehenberger and o.Univ.Prof. Dr. Klaus Zeman, who are Area-coordinators of the ACCM research Area 1 \u201eProcess Modelling and Mechatronic Design\u201c. The speakers came from Delft University of Technology, ETH Zurich, Helmut-Schmidt-University Hamburg, Johannes Kepler University Linz, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, University of Abertay Dundee, University of Patras, and University of Stuttgart.<\/p>\n
