Scientists from seven European nations and Japan participated in the workshop.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The workshop presented and discussed research results concerning approaches, methods and theories for model-based mechatronic system design. Topics included:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Model-based design and optimization of electromechanical actuators<\/li>\n<li>Evaluation of architectures in mechatronic systems engineering<\/li>\n<li>Mechatronic design of machine tools<\/li>\n<li>Improving robustness of mechatronic systems<\/li>\n<li>Biomimetic mechatronic design<\/li>\n<li>System engineering \/ safety analysis integrated design process<\/li>\n<li>Advantages of using reduced system models in the model-based development of mechatronic systems<\/li>\n<li>From dynamic structural modification to concurrent passive and active control in mechatronic system design<\/li>\n<li>A mechatronic conceptual approach to high-value cake manufacturing automation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The workshop was organized in cooperation between LCM and the Institut Sup\u00e9rieur de M\u00e9canique de Paris (Supm\u00e9ca) by Dr. Jean-Yves Choley (Supm\u00e9ca).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Among the participating institutions were Institut Cl\u00e9ment Ader INSA Toulouse, Site de l\u2019Ecole des Mines d\u2019Al\u00e8s, Universit\u00e9 de Technologie de Compi\u00e8gne, Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology, University of Naples Federico II, UEC Tokyo Ming Lab, Flanders&#8217; Mechatronics Technology Centre, Universit\u00e0 degli Studi di Padova and University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p>This work has been [partially] supported by the Linz Center of Mechatronics (LCM) in the framework of the Austrian COMET-K2
